Help me help you - Personal Advocacy

I heart meetings
Help me help you.
By Monica Miller Woods, CMP
Have you ever asked your boss for a raise, support to attend an educational conference, or a bigger budget? Whether or not you were successful in your request, you were advocating for an important cause – you. Personal advocacy comes in many forms, but when like-minded individuals join efforts for a common cause, individuals can and do impact change.
The Meeting Professionals International is comprised of people like us who share a common purpose, and an interest in, the meetings industry. We care about our profession’s well-being like we care about our own career. In the same way we protect our ability to advance ourselves by asking for that raise or educational opportunity, we as meeting professionals share a common purpose in advancing our industry.
As members, we all are shareholders in the business of advancing ourselves as well as advocating for our profession - the meetings industry. Ask yourself, “If not me, then who?”
To learn how you can help yourself by helping MPI, join us on February 14 at the IMPI education luncheon entitled I Heart Meetings & Events: Advocacy in the Meetings Industry. Come to learn what advocacy is, how to do it and do it well, and why it matters.
